Chhapra, Bihar: A shocking case of fraud unfolded in Chhapra when a man claiming to be an IAS officer was caught by the Saran District Magistrate (DM) Vaibhav Srivastava. The accused, Ritesh Kumar, presented himself as the Municipal Commissioner of Meerut and a batchmate of the DM, but his deception was exposed after cross-verification of his claims. Police are now investigating his past activities.
Impersonation Attempt at DM Office
Ritesh Kumar, a resident of Basadhi in the Nagar police station area, walked into the DM’s office with confidence, claiming his position in the Indian Administrative Service and attempting to intimidate officials by portraying himself as a peer of the DM. However, DM Srivastava grew suspicious of his behavior and demanded detailed verification, including his posting details and official identification. Unable to provide satisfactory answers, Ritesh’s story quickly unraveled. He was immediately handed over to the police.
History of Fraud
During interrogation, Ritesh claimed that he had created the false identity to advocate for his family, who he said were being harassed. Investigations, however, revealed that he had previously posed as an officer to meet former district officials. Police suspect that he has used fake credentials to pressure government offices and extort large sums from people.
Police Investigation Underway
Following the DM’s instructions, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed at the Nagar police station under sections related to fraud and impersonation. Ritesh Kumar (son of Krishna Pandit) is now under investigation, and police are probing whether he misused the fake identity to financially cheat any other individuals or government departments.
