An unusual case of deception has surfaced in Agra, where a young woman was allegedly cheated by a man she met on a matrimonial website. Posing as a doctor, the accused befriended her, went on a date at a shopping mall, and later escaped with her scooter, leaving her stunned in the parking area.
The victim, a resident of the Dauretha area under Shahganj police station, told the police that she had created a profile on Shaadi.com. She soon connected with a man identifying himself as Dr. Shivkumar Sharma. After regular conversations, he invited her to meet at Burger King inside SRK Mall.
According to the woman, the meeting began normally with casual conversation. After some time, the accused said he needed to meet his friend and sister-in-law and persuaded her to accompany him on her scooter. While riding, he suddenly claimed that his friend was actually inside SRK Mall and turned the vehicle back.
Scooty Stolen from Mall Parking
Once they reached the mall parking area, the woman got off the scooter to collect the parking slip. Taking advantage of the moment, the accused sped away with the scooter, abandoning her at the spot. The scooter’s storage compartment reportedly contained her wallet, cash, and jewellery.
Shocked and helpless, the woman later filed a complaint at New Agra police station. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused.
Police Investigation Underway
Police officials stated that efforts are underway to trace the accused. CCTV footage from the mall and nearby areas is being examined to identify and locate him.
City DCP Syed Ali Abbas warned that sharing personal details with unknown individuals, especially through online platforms, can be dangerous. He urged people to remain vigilant and cautious to avoid falling victim to such crimes.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing risks associated with online matrimonial frauds, prompting authorities to advise greater awareness and caution while interacting with strangers online.
