Jaipur: In a major breakthrough against counterfeit currency circulation, Jaipur Police have exposed a fake currency racket operating from Uttar Pradesh to Rajasthan. The City Special Task (CST) team of the Jaipur Commissionerate seized counterfeit notes worth ₹2.90 lakh and arrested two accused during a late-night operation in the Chitrakoot police station area.
According to Special Commissioner Rahul Prakash, the CST team received specific intelligence that a युवक was moving around the Chitrakoot area in a car carrying fake currency. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a team led by Inspector Ratan Singh laid a trap and intercepted the suspicious vehicle.
Fake Notes Recovered From Car and Flat
During the search of the car, police recovered counterfeit currency worth ₹1.90 lakh from the possession of Govind Chaudhary, a resident of Jhalawar. The accused was immediately taken into custody and interrogated on the spot.
Further questioning revealed that his associate, Devansh Phanda, a resident of Chitrakoot Nagar in Vaishali Nagar, was also in possession of fake notes. The CST team subsequently conducted a raid at Devansh’s flat in the Chitrakoot area, where an additional ₹1 lakh in counterfeit currency was recovered.
Consignment Brought From Uttar Pradesh
During interrogation, both accused confessed that the fake currency consignment had been brought from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh for circulation in Jaipur and nearby areas. Police believe the racket may have wider interstate links.
Both accused have been arrested, and the counterfeit notes have been seized. Police are now questioning them to identify other members of the network and to trace the source, supply chain, and intended distribution of the fake currency. Further investigation is underway, and more arrests are expected as the probe progresses.
