Fadnavis Warns MLAs Against Overusing ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ in Assembly Debates

Nagpur: During the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Assembly, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis cautioned legislators against repeatedly citing the “Ladki Bahin Yojana” in every discussion. The warning came after a heated debate over women’s safety and illegal liquor sales.

Incident in the Assembly

The issue came to the forefront when Abhimanyu Pawar, a trusted MLA of the ruling BJP, raised concerns about illegal liquor sales, linking them to the welfare of women under the Ladki Bahin scheme. CM Fadnavis, visibly displeased, rebuked Pawar, saying:
“Do not bring up the Ladki Bahin scheme in every matter. Do not go against our daughters; otherwise, you will have to stay at home.”

Pawar had remarked, “We keep talking about Ladki Bahin, but the biggest concern for women is the illegal liquor trade. The government needs to address this issue. Despite your instructions in the meeting, the problem persists. This is a serious matter.”

CM’s Clarification

Fadnavis emphasized that linking every issue to the Ladki Bahin Yojana is inappropriate, noting that over 2.5 crore beneficiaries have already availed the scheme. He assured that all measures for women’s safety are being implemented, and no funds have been withheld.

He further clarified that beneficiaries who have not yet completed KYC will receive funds directly into their accounts once formalities are completed. The Chief Minister highlighted that certain provisions of the Shakti Act have now been incorporated into three new laws.

Ladki Bahin Yojana to Continue

The CM made it clear that the scheme will not be discontinued and will continue to operate. Legislators were advised to raise issues responsibly, without unnecessarily linking them to the Ladki Bahin program.

Satara Case Update

Regarding the suicide of a female doctor in Phaltan, Satara district, CM Fadnavis stated that a charge sheet will be filed within 60 days. He urged that the matter should not be politicized, assuring that the investigation is being conducted transparently. All necessary support will be provided to the affected families.

Fadnavis reiterated that a special committee, led by a female officer, has reviewed CCTV footage and forensic evidence in accordance with new laws. A judicial inquiry is also underway to ensure accountability.
