Eyewitness Account: Even in Bihar’s ‘Jungle Raj,’ These Three Policemen Were Feared Like ‘Godfathers’ by Criminals

Patna, Bihar: The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections saw the issue of law and order, famously referred to as ‘Jungle Raj,’ helping the BJP secure a sweeping victory. But few know about the fearless policemen whose mere names would strike terror in the hearts of criminals during that tumultuous period. Here’s a firsthand account of three such officers.

Bihar’s Fearless Police Officers Amid ‘Jungle Raj’
This is not fiction. Back in 1996, I was a tenth-grade student at Sar Ganesh Dutt Patliputra High School in Patna, preparing for board exams. At that time, every neighborhood seemed to have its own don, and even stepping outside your home carried the risk of life-threatening encounters. Amidst this chaos, I witnessed moments that restored faith in law and order. It was during this time that three names—frequently mentioned in newspapers and by locals—stood out for their bravery.

1. Inspector Mohammad Alauddin: Synonymous with Fear for Criminals
I first heard about Inspector Mohammad Alauddin from a friend, Ajay, while heading to coaching classes. Ajay said, “No matter what happens, Alauddin is incredibly brave. That don in our area? He drives him and others away without mercy.” Around 25 years ago, Alauddin was reportedly in charge of Patna’s Parsa police station.

One morning, news broke of an encounter near Sahayog Hospital in Patna, where two criminals from West Champaran had come to extort a businessman. Inspector Alauddin confronted them with firearms. Despite being shot and severely injured—losing both legs during treatment—he returned to duty, later receiving the Gallantry Award and promotion to DSP.

2. Ramakant Prasad: The Courageous Officer of Kadamkuan Police Station
Ramakant Prasad remains relatively unknown online, but his courage left a lasting impression. Around 2002–2003, I witnessed him chasing two bikers across Rajendra Nagar Bridge in Patna. Even as the criminals tried to flee, Prasad’s unflinching pursuit and daring left a mark on everyone who witnessed it firsthand.

3. Kundan Krishnan: The Name That Terrified Criminals
Kundan Krishnan’s reputation precedes him. In 2006, following the infamous Chhapra Jail incident, Krishnan confronted the notorious strongman Anand Mohan. His fearlessness in dealing with hardened criminals in Bihar’s lawless zones proved that the police could enforce order even during the so-called ‘Jungle Raj.’ Today, his name still evokes fear among many former criminals.

The Lasting Legacy of Law Enforcement
There are many more stories of brave policemen who upheld the law in Bihar’s most challenging times. As a famous line from Jolly LLB Part 1 goes, people have faith in the courts: “I will see you in court.” Similarly, these officers instilled confidence in citizens that the law would always prevail, and criminals would learn that their “father”—the ultimate authority in khaki—was watching.

Even amid lawlessness, Bihar’s fearless policemen reminded everyone that justice would never be absent.
