Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has announced special arrangements for Holi travel, ensuring smoother journeys for passengers. Additional buses will operate across the state from February 28 to March 9, and outstanding employees will receive incentives ranging from ₹3,600 to ₹4,500.
State Transport Minister (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Singh stated that travel pressure is typically higher from Delhi, Ghaziabad, and western Uttar Pradesh, and therefore, adequate buses and staff will be pre-deployed in these regions. If 60% of passenger load is observed from initial routes, additional buses will also be deployed to other areas.
Holiday Period: No Leave for Staff
Ministers have directed that 100% of corporation buses remain operational and contractual staff will not be granted leave during the festival period. Vehicle owners have been asked to complete maintenance work on time and ensure buses are available for service.
Emphasis on Safety and Quality
The Yogi government has prioritized passenger safety during the festive period. Authorities have instructed staff to manage traffic jams and accidents efficiently to maintain smooth operations. Enforcement teams will remain on duty continuously. Drivers and conductors will undergo breathalyzer tests, and buses will be inspected to ensure technical fitness, functional seats and windows, and availability of fire safety equipment. Bus stations and vehicles will also maintain strict cleanliness standards.
Special Incentive Plan for Employees
Outstanding drivers and conductors (including contract and outsourced staff) will receive incentives for exemplary work during the festival. Employees covering an average of 300 km per day will earn ₹360 per day, totaling ₹3,600 for ten days. Those completing the full ten-day duty with prescribed standards will earn ₹450 per day, totaling ₹4,500, with an additional ₹0.55 per km for extra distance covered. Employees at depots and regional workshops will receive ₹2,100 for ten consecutive days and ₹1,800 for nine days of duty as a one-time incentive.
Recognition for Exceptional Performance
Employees and officials delivering exceptional performance during the incentive period will receive additional rewards based on regional committee recommendations. The top three areas with the highest revenue per bus, along with ten assistant regional managers from selected depots, will also receive certificates of appreciation.
With these measures, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to make Holi travel safer, smoother, and more rewarding for both passengers and staff.
