Extortion From Truck Drivers in Shajapur Caught on Camera; Police Seen Standing By, SP Orders Probe

Shajapur: A video showing open extortion from truck drivers in front of Maksi police station has gone viral, raising serious questions over police negligence — and possible complicity. In the footage, a man can be seen collecting money from passing trucks while police personnel stand nearby without intervening.

Extortion Happening in Front of Police Vehicle

The 44-second video shows:

  • A police patrol vehicle parked by the roadside
  • One policeman sitting inside the vehicle
  • Another policeman walking around the spot
  • A man in plain clothes approaching passing trucks and receiving something from the drivers

Although it is not clearly visible whether he is taking cash or something else, the exchange appears suspicious.

SP Orders Investigation

SP Yashpal Singh Rajput has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
According to Maksi TI Sanjay Verma, the man seen in the video is a retired Home Guard jawan. He claimed that the police personnel present at the spot were not involved in the extortion and that the retired Home Guard has been sternly warned.

Questions Over Police Inaction

Despite official statements, serious questions remain:

  • If police officers were present, why didn’t they stop the illegal transactions?
  • How could extortion take place openly just a few steps away from the police station?
  • Why has no action been taken yet despite clear video evidence?

Eyewitnesses claim that trucks arriving for the Saturday weekly market in Maksi are often forced to pay entry fees. The viral video appears to support these allegations.

Visible Police Presence Raises Doubts of Protection

The video clearly shows:

  • A police vehicle stationed at the spot
  • A policeman in uniform in the driver’s seat
  • Another policeman standing beside the vehicle
  • The plain-clothed man collecting payments from passing trucks

The visuals suggest that the illegal collection was happening under police protection, or at the very least, under their silent watch. Yet, no official has been booked so far.

Probe Underway, Accountability Awaited

Police officials maintain that the matter is under investigation, but the public is demanding swift action and accountability.
The incident has sparked outrage, with citizens questioning law enforcement’s role in curbing — or enabling — corruption.
