Exclusive: Is the Lalu Family Not Moving to 39 Harding Road? Why Their Belongings Are Being Shifted to Danapur Gaushala

Patna, Bihar: Political circles in Bihar are buzzing again over the Lalu Prasad Yadav family. Their belongings are being shifted from their current official residence at 10 Circular Road to a Gaushala (cowshed) on Gola Road in Danapur, sparking speculation about whether they will actually move into the newly allotted residence at 39 Harding Road.

Temporary Storage at the Gaushala
The Gola Road Gaushala, part of a large farmhouse, has ample space including several rooms, though it is unlikely to offer adequate residential facilities for two former Chief Ministers. Sources indicate that the family’s belongings are being stored there temporarily while their luxurious house in Mahua Bagh nears completion. At present, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi are in Delhi, where Lalu underwent an eye operation, and Tejashwi Yadav is on an overseas trip. With no family members currently in Patna, the Gaushala is serving as a secure temporary storage location.

Inside Lalu Yadav’s Gaushala
The Gola Road Gaushala, colloquially referred to as Lalu Yadav’s ‘khatthal’ by locals, houses a large number of cows. Entry is restricted, and outsiders cannot enter without prior permission. In 2015, during the beef controversy, Lalu had tweeted that his Gaushala typically housed 100 to 500 cows, highlighting the need for a large facility. As his number of cows grew, they were moved to this expansive Gaushala.

Historical Connection with Cows
Lalu Prasad Yadav has long maintained a personal connection with cows. Even when residing at 1-A Circular Road, the official Chief Minister’s residence included a large Gaushala. A similar facility existed when the family moved to 10 Circular Road. Now, most cows have been shifted to Gola Road. Lalu has historically shown guests, including media personnel and politicians, around the Gaushala, including Rahul Gandhi during his January visit this year.

Strategic and Residential Use
In 2015, part of the farmhouse was converted into a war room for election strategy, led by Tejashwi Yadav, while the remaining cows were temporarily moved. At that time, the war room functioned as a fully operational campaign hub with content writers, slogan writers, cartoonists, graphic designers, and computer operators working round the clock. Posts for social media handles of Lalu, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, Tejashwi Yadav, and Tej Pratap Yadav were coordinated from here.

Will the Family Stay at the Gaushala?
While the Gaushala offers temporary residential and operational facilities, the Lalu family is unlikely to stay there permanently. Lalu Prasad Yadav occasionally visits for leisure or to inspect the cows. Sources add that besides Mahua Bagh, he also has a residence in Kautilya Nagar, offering other living options.

The shift of belongings has once again reignited speculation in Bihar’s political corridors about the family’s residential plans and their engagement with party and political activities.
