Patna, Bihar: Bihar’s Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh is making headlines for her dedicated efforts to enhance sports infrastructure across the state. In an exclusive interview with Navbharat Times Digital, Singh opened up about the journey from being a sportsperson to a legislator and finally, heading the sports ministry.
From Shooter to Minister
A former national-level shooter and current MLA from Jamui, Shreyasi Singh’s story is a beacon of inspiration for young aspirants. She spent 19 years honing her skills in shooting, turning her dreams into reality through relentless dedication. Politics was part of her family’s life, but she never initially aimed to become a minister. Yet her determination and proactive approach paved the way.
A Request That Turned Into a Ministry
During a conversation with NBT, Singh revealed that before the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited Jamui during his Pragati Yatra. Singh, speaking as a sportsperson, requested the construction of a proper sports complex in the district. This simple ask eventually led to her being entrusted with the entire sports ministry after the elections.
Sports Complex in Jamui
“The new sports complex is being constructed in the Sonpe area of Jamui. The tender process has been completed, and work is already underway. It will include a badminton court, and plans are also in place to upgrade the existing Shri Krishna Stadium, adding another badminton facility,” Singh said.
Expanding Opportunities for Athletes
Singh emphasized that Jamui will soon have multiple badminton courts available for local athletes. “We aim to ensure that children in Bihar, especially players from Jamui, don’t have to leave the district or state to practice. They will have world-class facilities at home,” she added.
A Vision for Bihar’s Youth
This interview marks the first part of a seven-part series with Shreyasi Singh, where she will share her vision, strategies, and plans for sports development across Bihar. Her proactive approach and direct engagement with the Chief Minister have clearly shown that a single request, backed by persistence and clarity, can turn into a transformative opportunity—not just for herself, but for aspiring athletes across the state.
