Ex-MP Atul Rai’s Convoy Stopped for Late-Night Check in Mau; Video Sparks Political Stir

Mau: The political temperature in Mau district rose late Monday night as police stopped and checked the convoy of former Ghhosi MP Atul Rai, ahead of the upcoming by-elections. Rai released a video on social media calling for a fair and impartial probe by the administration.

According to reports, Mau Sadar Kotwal Anil Singh and Traffic In-Charge SS Pandey invoked Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code to stop and search Rai’s convoy. The search, carried out in Bunkar Colony area of the city, found no objectionable or illegal material. After completing the check, the police allowed the convoy to proceed.

Background of the Incident
Atul Rai was returning to his home district of Ghazipur after attending a series of ceremonial events in Mau. His convoy comprised four vehicles. Upon reaching the city area near Bunkar Colony, the police conducted a routine check on the convoy.

Rai recorded a video during the return journey and posted it on social media, stating, “No one can keep me away from the people of Ghhosi. Today I am traveling in four vehicles; if the administration objects, I am ready to walk among the people and share in their joys and sorrows.”

In the video, the former MP also indirectly questioned the administration, urging that vehicles of ruling party leaders undergo the same impartial checks. He appealed for equal treatment and ethical conduct from officials.

The video went viral within hours, further intensifying political activity in the district. Reactions poured in from both ruling and opposition camps regarding the administration’s actions.
