“Every Martyr Is Only an Indian”: Mohan Bhagwat Calls for Unity and Social Harmony in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur: On the occasion of Republic Day 2026, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr Mohan Bhagwat delivered a strong message of national unity, social harmony and constitutional responsibility while addressing swayamsevaks in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Emphasising that sacrifice for the nation transcends religious identity, Bhagwat said, “Every soldier who lays down his life on the border is only an Indian, whether Hindu or Muslim.”

Dr Bhagwat, who is on a visit to Muzaffarpur during the centenary year of the RSS, hoisted the national flag at the North Bihar provincial headquarters ‘Madhukar Niketan’ near Kalambagh Chowk. Following the ceremony, he held an interaction and guidance session with RSS functionaries from various organisational levels of North Bihar.

Republic Day Message of Harmony and Self-Reflection

In his address, the RSS chief said that Republic Day inspires citizens to move forward with mutual goodwill, leaving behind animosity and discord. He stressed that peace and prosperity naturally follow in societies where internal conflict and tension are absent.

“While the nation unites when it comes to defending borders, we must also introspect about violence and clashes that occur within society,” Bhagwat said, urging people to reflect on their conduct and collective responsibilities.

Constitution: Rights Along with Duties

Highlighting the importance of the Constitution, Bhagwat said it not only guarantees fundamental rights but also reminds citizens of their duties. He called upon families and educational institutions to inculcate these values in children from an early age.

“The Constitution provides direction to our conduct. Obeying rules and laws is the duty of every citizen. If a law appears unjust, it should be changed through constitutional means, but as long as it exists, it must be followed,” he said.

Religion and Indian Constitutional Values

Dr Bhagwat explained the symbolism of the national flag, stating that the saffron colour represents sacrifice and cultural values, white symbolises peace, and the Ashoka Chakra signifies continuous motion and dharma. He said the framers of the Constitution recognised the importance of dharma and consciously linked it with social life.

Referring to Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Bhagwat said the chief architect of the Constitution had also spoken extensively about the relationship between religion, morality and constitutional values.

He further noted that not all social norms are written into law; many are passed down through traditions that promote discipline, ethics and respect, such as honouring elders and observing social boundaries.

The programme was attended by a large number of RSS workers and office-bearers from across the region.
