Chhatarpur, MP: In a major crackdown, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Sagar has caught the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) and a Sub-Engineer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 at the Buxwaha Municipal Council in Chhatarpur district, Madhya Pradesh.
According to reports, the officials had demanded a total of Rs 40,000 from a local resident, Hariram Ahirwar, in exchange for approval of his residential lease and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana application. Following negotiation, the bribe amount was finalized at Rs 30,000.
The EOW team carefully planned a trap. Fearing direct involvement, CMO Neha Sharma instructed Sub-Engineer Shobhit Mishra to collect the money on her behalf. As soon as Mishra received the cash, the EOW team swooped in and arrested him.
In a dramatic detail, the seized cash was treated with chemicals, turning the notes pink to mark them as evidence. The operation was led by DSP Uma Naval Arya and his team. Both accused are now facing charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
This operation highlights the EOW’s continuing efforts to curb corruption in local government bodies and send a strong message against bribery in public services.
