Election Commission Extends SIR Deadline in UP; Rajasthan Awaits Decision

Jaipur / Lucknow: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the deadline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Uttar Pradesh. Sources say that voters in UP now have until 25 December to submit claims and objections related to the electoral rolls, an extension of 14 days from the earlier deadline of 11 December.

While the extension in UP is confirmed, Rajasthan voters are still waiting for official clarification regarding any additional time. Election officials in the state have not yet announced any changes, though there are expectations that the deadline may also be extended to ensure complete participation.

Rajasthan Achieves 100% Voter List Digitization
On 6 December, Rajasthan became the first state in the country to fully digitize its voter list under the SIR-2026 process, setting a new benchmark in electoral management. Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan termed it a “collective achievement of Team Rajasthan,” highlighting the dedication of BLOs, assistant staff, supervisors, AEROs, EROs, and district election officers across both rural and urban areas.

Excellence in Voter Mapping
By 6 December, Rajasthan had completed over 97% of voter mapping, leaving only 3% of voters to submit documents during the claims and objections phase. On average, about 30 voters per polling booth will require document verification, streamlining the process and minimizing repeated submissions.

A New Model of Transparency Through Technology
The Election Department has strengthened the ECINET platform, BLO app, portal-based verification system, and district helplines, ensuring a faster and more reliable SIR process. Clear guidelines have been issued at every level, combining technological tools with human efforts to make Rajasthan a model state for election management in India.

Officials, including Dr. Renu Poonia, Special Officer at the Chief Electoral Officer’s office, confirmed that the decision on extending the SIR deadline for Rajasthan is still under consideration.
