Elderly Woman Duped of ₹50,000 in Indore Over ‘Dhaakad 2’ Role Scam

Indore, Madhya Pradesh: In a shocking incident, an elderly woman in Indore was defrauded of ₹50,000 by a scammer who claimed to be an employee of a film production house and promised her a role as Sonakshi Sinha’s mother in the upcoming film ‘Dhaakad 2’. The case has been registered with the Crime Branch, which has launched an investigation.

How the Scam Unfolded

The victim received a WhatsApp call on Wednesday from an individual claiming to represent Dharma Productions, Mumbai. During the conversation, the scammer persuaded her that the role of Sonakshi Sinha’s mother perfectly suited her. Trusting the caller, the woman shared an acting video as requested.

Subsequently, the fraudster demanded money under various pretexts, including security fees, costume charges, and registration fees, collecting a total of ₹50,000 via a QR code transferred to the bank account provided by him. Initially, the victim did not suspect anything, but when she requested the office address and further details, the caller began making excuses and eventually went offline. Realizing the deception, the woman lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch, Indore.

Dharma Productions Name Misused

Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotia clarified that the scam involved cyber fraud. The perpetrator falsely used the name of Dharma Productions, claiming that a security deposit of ₹25,000 was required to secure the role and prevent the actor from leaving the project midway. After receiving the money, the fraudster demanded additional fees, raising suspicion and prompting the victim to approach authorities.

The Crime Branch has warned citizens that fraudsters often exploit the promise of film, modeling, or web series roles to target unsuspecting individuals. The police have advised people not to trust such offers blindly and to verify all information before making any payments.
