New Delhi: A shocking incident has emerged at IGI Airport’s Terminal-3, one of the country’s most secure airports, where an elderly passenger died under suspicious circumstances and a 5-carat diamond ring disappeared from his hand. The family has filed a police complaint, and an investigation is underway.
Incident Dates Back to 4 January
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the early morning of 4 January. Arun (name changed), a resident of Rajasthan, had accompanied his parents to the airport as they were departing for a group tour to Baku. Around 4 AM during boarding, Arun’s father suddenly fell unconscious. Airport staff immediately called the medical emergency team, performed CPR, and shifted him to the medical emergency area.
Doctors later declared him dead, but during this chaotic process, the diamond ring disappeared from his finger. The family stated that the ring, worth several lakhs, was present on his finger when medical assistance was first provided. Despite inquiries with airport authorities and staff, there has been no trace of the missing ring. The family emphasized that the ring held not only financial value but also immense emotional significance.
Security Concerns at the Airport
This incident has raised serious questions about airport security. If such a lapse can occur at one of India’s most secure airports, concerns over the safety of passengers and their belongings have been heightened.
Investigation Findings
According to Arun, the ring was still on his father’s finger when he was moved to the medical room. However, after his father’s death, the airport returned all belongings, except for the ring. The family’s repeated requests led to a check of the finger, which showed only a ring mark. Police are continuing the investigation to determine how and when the diamond ring went missing.
The case has been registered, and authorities are now probing both the suspicious death and the disappearance of the precious jewelry.
