Eight Residential Towers Sealed in Greater Noida West After Yuvraj Mehta’s Death; Authorities Step Up Action

Following the tragic death of engineer Yuvraj Mehta in Sector-150, the administrative machinery across Greater Noida has finally swung into action. In a major crackdown, the Greater Noida Authority on Thursday sealed eight illegally constructed residential towers in Greater Noida West, exposing serious lapses in monitoring and urban regulation.

The sealed towers, located in Kheda Chauganpur village, comprise more than 100 flats, all of which were found to have been constructed without mandatory permissions or approved building maps. The flats were reportedly vacant at the time of the action.

Officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the coloniser involved in the illegal construction. The land falls under a notified area, where construction without prior approval from the authority is strictly prohibited.

The action was taken under the directions of Authority CEO N.G. Ravi Kumar, who ordered strict measures against all unauthorised constructions within the notified zones. The sealing operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional CEO Sumit Yadav, with the joint team of OSD Abhishek Pathak, OSD Ram Nayan Singh, police personnel, and authority security staff.

According to officials, complaints regarding illegal construction in the area had been received earlier. FIRs and notices had also been issued in the past, raising serious questions about how the buildings were completed and flats sold without timely intervention.

In a worrying revelation, authorities admitted that residents have already moved into one of the towers. Despite the buildings being completed and sold by the coloniser, the illegal activity reportedly went unnoticed for a long period, making enforcement action far more challenging.

Local residents have expressed mixed reactions, stating that such strict action should not be limited to post-tragedy responses but must be a continuous process to protect public safety.

Appealing to homebuyers, the Additional CEO urged citizens to verify land records and project approvals with the Authority’s Land and Revenue Department before purchasing any flat or plot. He warned that many colonisers mislead buyers by selling properties without legal clearances.

The intensified enforcement drive comes amid growing public anger over regulatory failures, after the death of Yuvraj Mehta highlighted grave safety and governance concerns in high-density residential areas.

Authorities have indicated that similar actions against illegal constructions will continue in the coming days.
