Dehradun: Uttarakhand continues to experience dry weather as November progresses, with no significant rainfall reported across most regions. According to the Meteorological Center, the coming days are expected to remain dry, with daytime temperatures slightly higher, offering temporary relief from the morning chill.
Dense fog in the plains and frost in the hilly areas are causing additional hardships for residents, while bright sunshine during the day is pushing maximum temperatures upward. However, temperatures drop sharply in the evening, leading to cold nights.
Udhamsingh Nagar, for instance, has experienced nights colder than Mukteshwar due to a steep drop in minimum temperatures. On Friday, Dehradun and surrounding areas enjoyed bright sunlight during the day, but the temperature difference between day and night exceeded threefold. Chilly winds in the evenings have made conditions uncomfortable.
Udhamsingh Nagar recorded a maximum temperature three degrees above normal and a minimum three degrees below normal. Mukteshwar recorded a maximum of 18.3°C and a minimum of 6.7°C, while New Tehri registered 20.6°C and 5.8°C respectively.
The Meteorological Center reports that the state is likely to remain dry for the next few days, with no immediate changes in temperatures. A further drop in mercury may occur later. Most parts of Uttarakhand have not received rainfall in November this year. While November normally sees an average of 5.9 mm of rain, only light showers were recorded at the beginning of the month in Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi; other districts received none.
Meteorologists attribute the lack of rainfall to changing climate patterns. Historically, November was also dry in 2016 and 2021. The absence of rain has led to rising daytime temperatures in both plains and hilly regions. On Friday, Dehradun recorded a maximum of 27.6°C (4°C above normal) and a minimum of 8.7°C (1°C below normal).
The Meteorological Center forecasts that dry weather will prevail across the state until December 4, with frost in hilly areas and light morning fog in the plains likely to intensify the chill during evenings and mornings.
