An incident that has brought embarrassment to the education system has surfaced from the remote Beohari region of Shahdol district, where a government school teacher was found attending duty in a drunken state. The shocking episode, captured on video and now widely circulating on social media, has triggered outrage among parents, citizens, and authorities alike.
The incident occurred at Government Middle School, Hirwar, under the Barauha Jan Shiksha Kendra of Beohari block. Assistant teacher Ramkhelawan Chaudhary allegedly arrived at the school during working hours in an intoxicated condition. His state was reportedly so poor that he appeared disoriented, used abusive language, and failed to maintain even basic decorum—forgetting to zip his trousers or button his shirt.
Eyewitnesses said the teacher created chaos on the school premises, roaming around in an unruly manner and hurling abuses not only at staff but also openly using derogatory words against senior government officials, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and the Tehsildar. In a disturbing visual from the viral video, the teacher can be seen sitting inside a classroom, shouting obscenities while holding a packet of tobacco.
One of the students present reportedly recorded the video on a mobile phone, which later surfaced online. The footage clearly shows the teacher’s intoxicated condition and indecent behavior, raising serious concerns about student safety, discipline, and the overall quality of governance in government schools.
Following the viral spread of the video, questions are being raised about the accountability of the education department and how such a teacher continued in service despite apparent misconduct. The incident has sparked a broader debate on monitoring mechanisms and disciplinary standards within the public education system.
Reacting to the matter, Beohari SDM Bhagirathi Lahre stated that the Block Education Officer has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry. “A thorough investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken based on the findings,” he said.
The incident serves as a grim reminder that when those entrusted with shaping young minds fail in responsibility and conduct, it not only damages the institution’s credibility but also shakes public trust in the system itself.
