Nandgram’s Ramleela Park in C-Block has become a hub for drug users, turning what was once a space for children’s play and community gatherings into a den of fear and illegal activity. Local residents report that youngsters openly consume alcohol and risky injections, leaving behind used syringes and empty drug vials throughout the park. Families now avoid the area due to safety concerns.
Women and Children at Risk
Residents claim that intoxicated youths frequently harass local women and girls, and anyone who objects faces threats or attacks. The situation has escalated to a point where law-abiding citizens fear entering the park, making it a no-go zone for families.
Allegations Against Home Guard
Locals allege that a home guard stationed in the area is complicit, allowing these illegal activities to continue. Complaints to him are reportedly ignored, raising serious questions about local law enforcement effectiveness.
Police Response
ACP Nandgram, Upasana Pandey, stated that the issue came to her notice and regular police patrolling has been implemented. She assured that stricter action would be taken if illegal activities persist and announced increased monitoring of nearby medical stores to prevent unauthorized sale of injection drugs.
Community Pushback
The Kisan Seva (A) Organization has formally submitted a memorandum to the local police station, demanding that the park be cleared of drug users and that strict legal action be taken against offenders.
