Drop in Maximum Temperature Intensifies Chill Across Bihar; Relief Likely After Two Days

Patna, Jan 31:A decline in maximum temperatures across Bihar has led to a sharp increase in daytime chill, with cold winds and dense fog affecting normal life in several districts, including the state capital Patna. According to the Meteorological Department, relief from the prevailing cold conditions is expected after the next two days.

Weather officials said that snowfall and rainfall in parts of north India have influenced Bihar’s weather pattern, resulting in a noticeable fall in temperatures over the past 24 hours. Cold winds and foggy conditions reduced visibility at several places, impacting road and rail movement.

Sabour in Bhagalpur district recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 7.5 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest location. Meanwhile, Forbesganj registered the highest maximum temperature at 25.02 degrees Celsius.

During the last 24 hours, maximum temperatures across many districts dropped by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, remaining between 18.5 and 25.0 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures ranged from 7.5 to 12.8 degrees Celsius, with a decline of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius recorded at several locations. The lowest visibility of 50 metres was reported in Bhagalpur due to dense fog.

The Meteorological Department stated that cold winds from northern regions will continue to affect north-central and south-central parts of Bihar, leading to persistent cold conditions and fog at isolated places. However, the weather remained dry across the state during the last 24 hours.

Temperature Likely to Rise After 48 Hours

According to the forecast, there is no significant change expected in maximum temperatures over the next 24 hours. Thereafter, maximum temperatures are likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the following 48 hours, providing gradual relief from the cold. Similarly, minimum temperatures are expected to remain stable for the next day, followed by a gradual increase of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the subsequent two days.

The department has predicted that the weather will remain generally dry over the next two days, though dense fog may persist at some locations during morning hours.
