SAHARANPUR: The Army and police in Saharanpur are jointly interrogating two young men after they were caught operating a drone over a military training area. The incident occurred at the Remount Depot, where sensitive photos and videos were reportedly recorded.
Drone Spotted Over Army Complex
According to Subedar Balu Singh of the Army, soldiers noticed a drone flying over the Remount Depot training area around 10:30 AM on Friday. The drone circled several times over a construction site and surrounding areas, raising suspicion among the on-duty personnel. The Army promptly informed higher authorities, who launched a search operation. Near Rasulpur village, two men were found operating the drone and were immediately taken into custody. A drone and a laptop were seized from their possession.
Sensitive Photos and Videos Found
Preliminary examination of the laptop revealed photos and videos taken inside the Remount Depot complex, including footage related to construction activities. The youths were first taken to the Janakpuri police station for questioning and later brought to Gagalhedi police station after the Army filed a report.
Claim of Affiliation with Government Survey Project
During interrogation, the detainees claimed that they were working for a Central Government survey project, conducting aerial photography and video recording for river surveys. They also stated that they possessed an official letter from the Government of India. However, both the Army and police are verifying the authenticity and validity of this letter.
Drone Operations Over Military Areas Require Permission
Subedar Balu Singh emphasized that operating drones over Army areas without prior permission from military authorities is a serious violation of rules, especially when the footage includes sensitive internal views of the Army complex.
Joint Investigation Underway
A joint investigation by the Army and police is ongoing, focusing on drone permissions, the authenticity of the government letter, and forensic analysis of the data on the laptop. The authorities have stated that further legal action will be determined after the investigation is complete.
