Drone Operation Uncovers Hidden Cannabis Cultivation Worth ₹1.77 Crore at MP-Maharashtra Border

Khargone, MP: A high-tech cannabis cultivation hidden in the hills along the Madhya Pradesh–Maharashtra border has been busted following a drone reconnaissance operation. Police recovered 3,200 cannabis plants worth approximately ₹1.77 crore in Khargone district’s Chainpur police station area, officials confirmed.

The Discovery

According to Khargone Superintendent of Police, Ravindra Verma, the operation was conducted after a tip-off led police to Tanda Wadi village in the Hela Padawa area. The investigation revealed that Tidia Jamre, a local tribal, had cultivated cannabis across three separate locations amidst dense hills. The police team recovered 35 quintals of cannabis plants from the site.

Challenging Terrain and Advanced Cultivation

The police, under Additional SP Shakuntala Ruhal, trekked approximately 3 kilometers on foot to reach the locations identified through drone surveillance. The operation revealed that the crops were being irrigated using solar-powered pumps from nearby wells, highlighting the sophisticated methods employed in the cultivation.

Legal Action and Suspect Hunt

Authorities have registered a case under the NDPS Act, and a manhunt is on for Tidia Jamre, the main accused behind the cultivation. Police noted that the total value of the seized cannabis is estimated at ₹1.77 crore, underlining the scale of the operation.

Previous Cases in Khargone

This is not the first such seizure in the region. Earlier, cannabis plants were found hidden among cotton crops in Mandleshwar police station area and among chili and pigeon pea crops in Palona and Kharkiya Nadi villages. In those cases, police recovered cannabis worth around ₹20 lakh.

This successful operation demonstrates the critical role of technology and ground intelligence in combating illegal narcotics cultivation in remote and challenging terrains.
