Driving License in Jaipur Becomes Tougher: Only 7.5% Pass Automated Trial

Jaipur, Rajasthan: Getting a driving license in Jaipur has become significantly harder following the implementation of the automated driving trial track at the RTO office. Over the past three days, only 7.5% of candidates have managed to pass the test, signaling a sharp drop in successful applicants.

Automated Trial System Raises the Bar

The new system evaluates driving skills entirely through technology, with sensors and cameras monitoring vehicle speed, balance, lane discipline, signal compliance, and overall driving performance. Human intervention is now minimal, leaving no room for leniency or recommendations. Out of 40 candidates who appeared for the test in the last three days, only three passed.

Experts note that in other states where this system has been in use, the pass rate averages between 20–25%. Many applicants are reportedly hesitant to attempt the test due to its strict and impartial evaluation.

Impact on Middlemen and Departmental Operations

While the automated system has largely eliminated the role of middlemen, it has also created new challenges. Jaipur has two RTO offices: Jagatpura, which mandates the automated test, and Vidyadhar Nagar, which still operates on the older manual system. This has led some applicants to prefer Vidyadhar Nagar, undermining uniformity and transparency in license issuance across the city.

RTO Pushes for Standardization

To address this, RTO Pratham Rajendra Singh Shekhawat has written to the Transport Department recommending that all driving licenses in Jaipur be issued exclusively through Jagatpura RTO. This would ensure consistent implementation of the automated trial system and maintain uniform standards across the district.

A Step Towards Road Safety

Transport and road safety experts argue that the automated driving trial is a timely measure. By ensuring unbiased evaluation, it helps produce more competent drivers, ultimately enhancing road safety. However, they emphasize that a standardized approach across Jaipur is essential for the system’s effective implementation.
