Gurgaon, Haryana: A shocking case of theft unfolded when a car driver, intending to go on a trip with his girlfriend and friends, abandoned his employer on the road and drove away with the car and cash. The vehicle contained approximately ₹8.9 lakh in cash. Police have successfully arrested the accused in Manali, Himachal Pradesh.
Incident Details
The victim, an elderly businessman residing in Rajouri, Delhi, had employed the driver, Rahul, about three months ago. On 7 November, while the businessman was en route to his office, Rahul asked him to stop the car briefly near Sector-54, DLF Phase-5, Gurgaon, claiming he needed something. As soon as the businessman stepped out, Rahul drove away with the car and the cash, fleeing towards the mountains.
The Gurgaon Crime Branch (Sector-43) received the complaint, and an investigation team led by Inspector Narendra Kumar Sharma was formed, including ASI Robin, Head Constable Navneet, EHC Praveen, and Constable Yogesh. Using technical surveillance and tracking methods, the team located and arrested Rahul in Manali, where he was reportedly enjoying his trip with his girlfriend and friends.
Motivation Behind the Crime
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was tempted by the cash in the car. Being employed with the businessman for several months, he planned the theft in advance, first intimidating the businessman to get him out of the car before fleeing with the vehicle and cash.
Police Action
Rahul has been produced in court and remanded for five days for further investigation. Authorities have recovered both the vehicle and the cash, and the case continues under investigation.
