Faridabad, adjacent to Delhi, is under the spotlight for its connection to terrorist activities after Jammu & Kashmir police recovered a large cache of explosives from the area. Subsequent investigations linked these explosives to the Delhi blast, revealing ties to a terror module connected with Al Falah University. Dr. Shaheen, a university faculty member, has been arrested in connection with these activities.
Planned Meeting with Pakistani Handler
Investigating agencies, including the NIA, are interrogating Dr. Shaheen to trace every link in the terror network. Sources indicate that she was scheduled to meet a Pakistani handler in the Gulf region, although the purpose of this meeting remains unclear.
Passport Manipulations Prevented Overseas Escape
Dr. Shaheen had her passport verified just seven days before the Delhi blast. However, due to discrepancies noted during the verification process, authorities withheld the report, preventing her from leaving the country. Further investigation revealed that Dr. Shaheen changed her address three times over several years in the same passport, raising suspicion.
Extensive Overseas Travel Raises Questions
Records indicate Dr. Shaheen stayed in Saudi Arabia from 2018 to 2024 and traveled to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar during this period. Following the discovery of Saudi currency in her locker, the NIA is now examining her travel history to determine her contacts and possible coordination with terror networks abroad.
Financial Trail Under Scrutiny
During a raid at her university hostel room, authorities recovered approximately ₹18.5 lakh in cash. Investigators are probing the source and purpose of these funds, suspecting that Dr. Shaheen may have been receiving financial support through terror organizations. Interrogation also revealed suspicious transactions across three NGO bank accounts linked to her.
Refusal to Hand Over Car Keys Unveils Advanced Firearms
Following the arrest of Dr. Adil, Faridabad police, acting on J&K police inputs, took Dr. Shaheen into custody and requested the keys to her new Brezza car. Initially, she denied possession of the keys, claiming they were lost. A search of her hostel apartment later revealed the car keys. Inspection of the car uncovered a Krinkov assault rifle and a foreign pistol, alarming investigators. The Krinkov, a compact 1979 Soviet-designed rifle, is notable for its concealability and efficiency in tight spaces, linking Dr. Shaheen further to potential terrorist activity.
Routine Check Turns into Major Terror Discovery
Police confirm that initial contact with Dr. Shaheen was routine, but the discovery of advanced firearms and financial irregularities prompted a full-scale investigation. Agencies are now working to piece together her international connections, local network, and the extent of her involvement in terror modules.
