Noida Crime & Civic Duty:
A disturbing incident from Noida’s Chaurha village has gone viral on social media, showing a drunk man creating a nuisance during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive. The man, identified as Joginder, was seen misbehaving with a woman Booth Level Officer (BLO) and threatening staff members while repeatedly saying, “Don’t take me lightly, my name is Joginder.”
The incident took place on December 1 at the Primary School, Chaurha, Sector-12, where several BLOs were engaged in voter list revision work. According to officials, the intoxicated man barged into the school premises and started pressuring the BLO team to make his voter ID on the spot.
When the woman BLO informed him that his name was not listed in the voter register of this booth, the man became aggressive and falsely claimed that the school building was constructed on his land. Throughout the confrontation, school staff could be seen pleading with him to calm down.
What the Woman BLO Said
Assistant Teacher Lovely Gupta, who was on duty as a BLO, stated that the man arrived heavily drunk and started forcing them to include his name in the voters’ list. She recorded his behaviour on her mobile phone for evidence.
Rising Misconduct Against BLOs
According to several BLOs, such incidents are becoming increasingly common. They complain that apart from administrative pressure, they often face misbehaviour from residents. Many BLOs reported being insulted at homes, threatened when names are marked absent, and even pressured to make illegal voter entries.
Police Action
After the video went viral, Noida Police swiftly arrested the accused. He has been booked under relevant sections and sent to jail. Authorities have assured strict action against anyone attempting to disrupt the SIR process or threaten government staff on duty.
This incident once again highlights the challenges faced by frontline election workers and the urgent need for stronger security measures to ensure smooth and safe execution of democratic processes.
