Doctor in Trouble After Scuffle at Sitamarhi Sadar Hospital; Civil Surgeon Issues Show-Cause Notice

The Civil Surgeon of Sitamarhi, Dr. Akhilesh Kumar, on Sunday issued a show-cause notice to Sadar Hospital doctor Dr. Aftab Alam following an alleged altercation with Deputy Superintendent Dr. Mukesh Kumar over duty attendance. Dr. Alam has been asked to explain why disciplinary action should not be taken against him. He has been given one day to submit his reply.

How the Dispute Began

The incident took place on Saturday when a disagreement between Dr. Mukesh Kumar and Dr. Aftab Alam escalated over the marking of attendance in the duty register. The heated exchange soon turned into a physical scuffle, triggering panic among hospital staff and patients.

On-duty health personnel and police officers stationed at the hospital intervened and brought the situation under control.

Deputy Superintendent’s Allegations

In his written complaint, Dr. Mukesh claimed that Dr. Aftab:

  • Deleted his attendance from the daily register
  • Verbally abused him with “a barrage of insults”
  • Attempted to physically assault him
  • Could be verified through CCTV footage and staff witnesses

He further alleged that Dr. Alam, who is posted in the emergency ward, “often arrives late for duty.”

Civil Surgeon’s Stand

Civil Surgeon Dr. Akhilesh Kumar assured hospital staff that a fair investigation would be carried out before taking action. The Deputy Superintendent has also informed District Magistrate Richi Pandey about the incident.

Dr. Aftab’s Defence

Dr. Aftab dismissed the allegations, stating:

“The Deputy Superintendent has an unpredictable temperament. He often behaves aggressively without reason.”

He denied any wrongdoing and accused Dr. Mukesh of creating unnecessary confrontation.
