“Do Not Leave Mumbai!” BJP, Shiv Sena (UBT) Direct Corporators Ahead of BMC Mayor Election

Mumbai: With the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor election scheduled for 11 February 2026, political activity in the city has intensified. Both the BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) have issued strict directives to their corporators, instructing them not to leave Mumbai until the conclusion of the Mayor and committee elections.

Background:
The nomination process for the Mayor election begins on 7 February, and key standing and statutory committees are yet to be decided within the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. To ensure smooth proceedings, party leadership has issued a whip directing corporators to remain in the city. Any corporator leaving Mumbai without permission could face disciplinary action.

Reason for the Order:
The directive also takes into account the weekend (7–8 February) and the popular Konkan Anganwadi fair starting on 9 February, which attracts large crowds and typically draws corporators to their hometowns. To prevent absences during critical election days, corporators are required to remain in Mumbai until 15 February, with exceptions requiring them to be present in the city on 10 February.

Party Statements:
Shiv Sena (UBT) group leader Kishori Pednekar emphasized that corporators must comply with the order to ensure smooth Mayor and committee elections. BJP municipal leader Ganesh Khankar said, “We have instructed corporators not to leave Mumbai without permission. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections will be held, followed by the work of statutory committees three days later. No one should leave the city without approval.”

The political maneuvering highlights the intense preparations by both parties to secure their positions in the upcoming BMC elections.
