Gorakhpur: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday urged society members not to rely solely on the RSS for social transformation, and instead take responsibility at their own level by engaging in discussions within their caste and community groups for the welfare of the larger Hindu society.
Addressing a Social Harmony Meeting organised as part of the RSS Centenary Year celebrations in Gorakhpur, Bhagwat said that expectations from the RSS have significantly increased in recent times, but society must understand that real work has to be done by the people themselves.
“People should not remain dependent on the RSS. One must reflect on what we are doing for the Hindu society,” he said while responding to questions raised by representatives present at the meeting.
India Stands for Goodwill, Not Self-Interest
Bhagwat highlighted India’s global image as a nation driven by compassion and goodwill. He said that unlike many countries where human relationships are often viewed as transactions, India’s philosophy is rooted in belongingness and emotional connection.
“India does not act out of selfishness. Whenever other countries face crises, India comes forward to help. India has always been a centre of goodwill,” he said.
Unity in Diversity is India’s Strength
Speaking about India’s social structure, Bhagwat emphasised that despite the presence of multiple traditions, customs and cultural diversity, the country remains united due to a shared sense of identity.
“We have many diversities, many customs and rituals, yet there is unity in diversity because we share one bond — we consider Bharat as our mother,” he added.
‘We Belong to a Larger Society’
The RSS chief further stated that completing 100 years of RSS is not a matter of celebration alone, but a reminder that the mission should have been achieved earlier.
He urged people to organise block-level meetings two to three times a year, and expand their thinking beyond their individual caste interests.
“It is good to think about one’s caste and community, but we must remember we belong to a much larger society. Hindu society offers complete freedom, but responsibility is equally important,” Bhagwat said.
Leaders From Various Communities Present
The meeting was attended by prominent representatives and leaders from different castes, social groups and organisations. The introductory address was delivered by Shivaji Rai, while the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Singh, the Social Harmony Head of the RSS unit.
