Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh: In a unique initiative to promote girls’ education, District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal of Lakhimpur Kheri has launched the innovative program ‘DM Kheri Ki Pathshala’. The initiative is aimed at implementing the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao vision of the central and state governments, bringing educational resources directly to every girl in the district.
On Monday, DM Nagpal, along with local representatives, distributed ‘Vidyadayini Potli’ to 9,000 schoolgirls from council schools and Kasturba Gandhi residential girls’ schools. Each potli contained essential study materials including a whiteboard, study table, markers, and duster, enabling the girls to set up a small learning space at home.
Objective of the Initiative
DM Nagpal explained that the aim of ‘DM Kheri Ki Pathshala’ is to ensure that girls’ education extends beyond the classroom. The initiative provides the necessary resources and environment for studying at home, encouraging them not only to excel in academics but also to inspire learning within their families and communities.
“This initiative will help girls build a strong foundation for their bright future. Education will make them self-reliant and empower them to spread knowledge in society,” said DM Nagpal during the event.
Phase One of the Program
In the first phase, 6,798 top-performing girls from council schools, 51 girls from the ‘Wall of Dreams’ project, and 2,151 girls from Kasturba Gandhi residential schools received the Vidyadayini Potli. For council schools, two toppers from classes 6, 7, and 8 were selected to receive the potli. The initiative involved a total of 9,000 potlis costing ₹19.8 lakh.
Wall of Dreams Inspires Creativity
A ‘Wall of Dreams’ was created at the Kasturba Gandhi residential school, showcasing colorful posters where girls expressed their future aspirations. Selected posters were displayed on the wall, highlighting creativity and imagination.

The distribution event was attended by MLA Yoghesh Verma, MLA Saurabh Singh ‘Sonu’, MLA Shashank Verma, MLA Lokendra Pratap Singh, and MLA Romi Sahni, who also participated in handing out the potlis. The girls’ excitement and enthusiasm were palpable as they received their educational kits.
