Direct Flight from Varanasi to Bangkok to Take Off Soon: Check Date, Timings and Fare Details

Varanasi: In a major boost to international connectivity from eastern Uttar Pradesh, a direct flight service between Varanasi and Bangkok is set to begin soon. The new service is expected to greatly benefit passengers from Purvanchal as well as neighboring Bihar, offering them a faster and more convenient travel option to Thailand.

According to sources, Air India Express will launch the direct Varanasi–Bangkok flight from February 1, 2026, and bookings for the service have already commenced. The decision comes after the airline recently discontinued its direct Lucknow–Bangkok service due to a decline in passenger numbers and shifted its focus to other international routes.

Earlier, Lucknow had two direct flights to Bangkok operated by AirAsia and Air India Express. However, Air India Express suspended its Lucknow service even before the winter schedule, reallocating the aircraft to Gulf routes. Following a detailed survey of alternative cities, the airline has now chosen Varanasi as the new departure point for the Bangkok flight.

Convenience for Purvanchal and Bihar Passengers

The introduction of a direct international flight from Varanasi is expected to be a major relief for travelers from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. At present, there is no direct flight from Patna to Bangkok, forcing passengers to travel via Delhi, Lucknow, or Kolkata using connecting flights. With Varanasi emerging as an international gateway, thousands of travelers heading to Thailand for tourism, business, or employment will benefit from reduced travel time and hassle.

Flight Schedule and Timings

As per airline sources, Air India Express flight IX-215 will depart from Varanasi at 12:35 PM and arrive in Bangkok at 6:05 PM. The return service, flight IX-216, will take off from Bangkok at 7:05 PM and land at Varanasi at 9:35 PM.

Fare Details

The introductory one-way fare from Varanasi to Bangkok has been set in the range of ₹8,857 to ₹9,057, while the return fare from Bangkok to Varanasi is currently around ₹9,548. The fares are flexible and may vary depending on demand and booking period.

With this new direct flight, Varanasi continues to strengthen its position as an important aviation hub in eastern India, enhancing international connectivity and offering greater convenience to travelers from the region.
