Dhanbad Railway Employee Murder Solved: Daughter, Son and Her Lover Arrested for Cold-Blooded Killing

Police in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district have cracked the mystery behind the suspicious death of a railway employee whose body was recovered from Pampu Talab earlier this month. What initially appeared to be an accident has now been revealed as a premeditated and brutal murder, allegedly carried out by the victim’s own children with the help of the daughter’s lover.

The deceased was identified as Birbal, a railway employee and resident of Hari Mandir area in Hirapur. Dhanbad Police have arrested his son Rohit Kumar, younger daughter Ritu Kumari, and Ritu’s lover Fardeen Khan, and sent all three to judicial custody.

Body Found on January 5

City SP Ritwik Srivastava, while addressing a press conference, said that Birbal’s body was recovered from Pampu Talab on January 5. Following a complaint filed by his elder daughter Aarti Kumari, a case was registered at Dhanbad police station and an investigation was launched.

Based on technical evidence, call detail record (CDR) analysis, post-mortem findings and medical opinions, police established that Birbal did not die accidentally but was strangled to death.

Drugged With Liquor, Then Killed

According to the police, Birbal was addicted to alcohol and often created disturbances at home, frequently abusing and assaulting family members while intoxicated. Angered by his behaviour, Rohit, Ritu and Fardeen allegedly conspired to eliminate him.

On the night of January 4, 2026, the accused mixed a sedative substance into Birbal’s liquor, rendering him unconscious. They then took him on a motorcycle to a secluded area in Amtal, where he was strangled to death using a muffler.

After committing the murder, the accused dumped the body into the pond in an attempt to destroy evidence.

Crucial Evidence Recovered

Police have recovered key items linked to the crime, including an empty liquor bottle, the muffler used for strangulation, and the motorcycle used to transport the victim. These recoveries further strengthened the prosecution’s case.

Calling it a deeply disturbing case of domestic conflict turning fatal, the City SP said the investigation is continuing to ensure all legal procedures are followed.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, highlighting the tragic consequences of prolonged domestic violence and family discord.
