Srinagar: A devastating explosion rocked Nowgam in Srinagar late Friday night, leaving the area in shock and horror. The blast occurred inside the Nowgam Police Station during the sampling of explosives seized from a White-collar terrorist module. Nine people, including police personnel and forensic experts, have been killed, while more than 27 others sustained injuries, several in critical condition.
The explosion, which struck at approximately 11:22 PM, created chaos in the vicinity. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area to ensure safety, while officials enforced strict precautionary protocols at the site.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of unimaginable horror. Tariq Ahmed, who arrived at the scene shortly after the blast, said, “We heard a tremendous explosion and were thrown into panic. When we saw people coming out, crying, we realized something terrible had happened inside the police station. Smoke and debris filled the area, bodies were scattered, severed heads and hands lay around—it looked like an apocalypse.”
Local resident Shafad Ahmed added, “The blast shook our homes. I have never experienced such a violent explosion. We tried to approach the area, but security personnel restricted access.”
Another resident, Arif, described the horror: “We thought it was an earthquake at first. Then the intense sounds and chaos made us realize it was a major attack. The scene at the police station was something I have never witnessed in my life.”
The force of the blast was so immense that it was felt up to 15 kilometers away, with heavy flames and smoke visible from a distance. Reports indicate that chunks of human flesh were thrown into nearby homes, leaving residents traumatized. Authorities are investigating the blast for links to suspects previously apprehended in connection with the Delhi blast.
The Nowgam incident marks yet another tragic episode in Jammu & Kashmir, highlighting the persistent threat of terrorist activity and the devastating human cost of such attacks.
