Jaipur, Rajasthan: An intense cold wave coupled with heavy fog has wreaked havoc across Rajasthan, including Jaipur, where over 30 cities are experiencing zero visibility. The dense fog has caused significant disruptions in road, rail, and air transport, leading to the cancellation of multiple flights and delays in train services.
Zero Visibility and Heavy Cold Impact Daily Life
The winter chill continues to take a toll on the state, with dense fog enveloping the region, making visibility near zero in many areas. In some cities, visibility is reduced to just a few meters, rendering it difficult to see anything beyond a small radius. Morning walkers have been seeking warmth around makeshift bonfires, but even these have proven ineffective against the dense fog.
Buildings Vanishing in the Fog
The fog has become so thick that even nearby buildings are no longer visible, creating an eerie atmosphere. Some residents have jokingly said that the fog has “taken away” neighboring houses, such is the extent of the visibility loss. Drivers are facing major difficulties as their vehicle headlights are ineffective in the dense fog.
People Huddled Up in Quilts
The extreme cold has altered people’s daily routines, with many staying tucked in their quilts until late morning. This has been the case for the past two days, and according to the meteorological department, similar weather conditions are expected to continue for the next few days. On Tuesday afternoon, the sun briefly made an appearance, but the fog persisted.
Flights Canceled, Others Delayed
The dense fog has severely affected air travel, leading to the cancellation of several flights. Jaipur International Airport experienced zero visibility during the morning hours, affecting multiple flights. The following flights were canceled due to poor visibility:
- 6E-7465 to Udaipur (scheduled at 6:55 AM)
- 6E-7217 to Ahmedabad (scheduled at 8:10 AM)
- 6E-7274 to Dehradun (scheduled at 8:25 AM)
- 6E-7718 to Chandigarh (scheduled at 9:45 AM)
Additionally, flight 6E-7742 to Chandigarh, scheduled for 5:50 AM, was delayed by over an hour.
