Delhi: Young Man Crushed to Death by Mercedes While Helping Family; One Dead, Two Injured

New Delhi: In a tragic incident late Saturday night, a Mercedes car ran over three people in Vasant Kunj North, resulting in the death of Rohit, who had moved to Delhi 10 months ago to support his family. Two others were injured in the accident.

Rohit, hailing from Chamoli, Uttarakhand, came to Delhi with dreams in his eyes, determined to assist his father, Yashwant Bisht, a small-scale farmer. With limited resources and responsibilities including a younger brother, Chandan, and a sister, Rohit took up a job as a chef at Paul Restaurant in Ambience Mall, earning ₹15,000–17,000 per month. After meeting his daily expenses and rent, he sent the remainder home to support his family.

Family in Shock
Speaking through tears, Rohit’s uncle, Balwant, said, “Rohit left home to help his family, and now he’s gone. Every day, poor people lose their lives on Delhi’s roads, and little is done to help their families.” The family is calling for strict action against the accused driver and financial assistance for the bereaved family. Rohit’s post-mortem is scheduled for Monday after his relatives arrive in Delhi.

Details of the Incident
The accident occurred after a wedding reception in Vasant Kunj. The groom, Shivam (29), a software engineer at Microsoft, had completed his wedding rituals earlier in the day at a Gurudwara in Karol Bagh with family present. Later, during the evening reception at Hotel Grand, Shivam, along with his wife and elder brother, left in a Mercedes G Wagon, owned by his friend Abhishek. The vehicle, while returning to Karol Bagh, struck Rohit and two others near Vasant Kunj North. Thankfully, the airbags deployed, preventing injuries to the groom and his family.

Background of the Victim
Rohit’s family lives in Chamoli, Uttarakhand. His father works as a small farmer, his sister is married, and his brother Chandan has recently completed 12th grade and is pursuing further studies. Rohit’s presence in Delhi was a lifeline for his family, helping cover expenses and support his siblings’ education.

This heartbreaking accident underscores the vulnerability of migrant workers in urban areas and the urgent need for road safety and accountability.
