Delhi Weather Update: Rain Lowers Temperature, Strong Winds Increase Chill; Forecast Ahead

New Delhi: The weather in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) has taken a turn, bringing respite from unseasonal warmth but a rise in winter chill. Early Friday, light showers accompanied by gusty winds were reported across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and surrounding areas. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), dense cloud cover is expected throughout the day, reducing the likelihood of sunlight and keeping daytime temperatures low.

Current Temperature and Forecast
IMD’s local weather report predicts a maximum temperature of around 19°C and a minimum of 12°C in Delhi on 23 January. On 24 January, the maximum temperature is expected to drop to 17°C with a minimum of 7°C, while 25 January may see light to moderate fog in the morning, with temperatures ranging between 17°C and 6°C.

Rainfall and Wind Alerts
Light rainfall with intermittent thunder and lightning was observed on Friday morning. IMD reported that showers are likely to continue for the next two hours from 7:30 AM. Strong winds of 30–40 km/h are expected in different parts of the city, contributing to the cold.

Air Quality Update
Air pollution continues to be a concern in several areas. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 317, Ashok Vihar 335, Bawana 342, Chandni Chowk 326, Alipur 322, and DTU area 312. Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram registered 267, Sanjay Nagar 290, and Loni remained critical at 390. Noida sectors 62, 125, 1, and 116 recorded AQIs of 249, 319, 290, and 296 respectively. Despite this, partial improvement in air quality was observed in some regions due to rainfall and wind, according to CPCB and UPPCB data.

Residents are advised to exercise caution during periods of strong winds and local thunderstorms. The weather pattern is expected to remain similar on 24 January, with continued cold and breezy conditions across the NCR.
