Delhi Tragedy: Birthday Celebration Turns Fatal as Truck Crushes Student on Scooter

New Delhi: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a 19-year-old student who had gone out to celebrate his birthday. The incident occurred on Mathura Road near Modi Mill Flyover, where a high-speed truck rammed into the scooter he was riding. His friend, 21-year-old Mohammad Saad, sustained serious injuries in the crash.

What Happened?

According to police, the victim, identified as Manav, lived with his family in the Sarai Julaina area, while Saad resided in Jamia Nagar. DCP Dr. Hemant Tiwari stated that the accident took place between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM on February 12. Upon receiving the alert, police reached the scene and discovered that the scooter had been hit from behind by a truck. Both young men were on their way to celebrate Manav’s birthday.

Details of the Accident

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Manav dead. Saad remains in critical condition. Manav was pursuing a BA degree at the time of the accident. The truck, loaded with grocery goods, was traveling from Badli to Nagpur. Police have arrested the truck driver, Jahul (32), and noted that the scooter was registered in Saad’s father’s name. Crime investigators also visited the site to collect evidence.

Investigation Underway

Authorities confirmed that the truck did not have a cleaner present at the time of the accident. The driver, a resident of Nuh, Haryana, has been operating the truck for the past two years on behalf of Rashid. Police are currently verifying the driver’s license and vehicle insurance, which Jahul claims are valid.

This tragic incident has once again raised concerns over overspeeding trucks and road safety in the national capital.
