New Delhi: In a strong move to combat pollution, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its anti-pollution drive across the city. As part of this campaign, four factories in the West Zone’s Bindapur ward have been sealed for violating environmental norms, contributing to both air and water pollution.
Action Across Delhi Zones:
In Shahdara North Zone, 24 individuals were fined for burning biomass, highlighting the MCD’s zero-tolerance approach towards activities that exacerbate air pollution. The West Zone authorities, in coordination with DPCC, BSES, and SDM officials, carried out a joint sealing operation targeting illegal industrial units in Bindapur Ward No. 116.
Factories Sealed:
The enforcement action included two coal-based brick kilns, one chemical factory, and one noodle production unit. All four units were found in breach of environmental standards, releasing pollutants into both air and water sources.
Additional Cleanup Efforts:
A social media alert about large amounts of waste along the railway tracks near Azadpur station prompted the Keshavpuram Zone to initiate an immediate large-scale cleanup operation.
Health and Environmental Concerns:
Delhi continues to experience extremely poor air quality, described by experts as a “gas chamber” effect. Residents are facing breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and other pollution-related health issues, leading to a surge in hospital visits. Smog has also reduced visibility on city roads, causing further concern. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), winds from 15 November are expected to gain strength, potentially worsening pollution levels in the coming days.
The MCD’s action reflects a strict enforcement policy aimed at curbing industrial and residential contributors to the city’s escalating pollution crisis.
