The tragic suicide of a Class 10 student from a private school in Delhi has triggered outrage among parents and forced the government to take swift action. Education Minister Ashish Sood has emphasized the urgent need to strengthen mental-health support in schools and announced the formation of a four-member inquiry committee. The panel has been directed to submit its report within three days.
Parents Protest Outside School, Demand Action Against Teachers
For the second consecutive day on Friday, parents gathered outside St. Columbus School demanding strict action against the teachers accused of harassing the student. According to the school administration, four teachers have already been suspended following the incident.
The student’s father revealed that his son wrote a note before ending his life, expressing his wish to donate his organs. “He was extremely sensitive. On the day of the incident, he kept crying, but the teachers did not care,” he said.
Minister Highlights Need for Mental-Health Vigilance
Education Minister Ashish Sood said he is personally monitoring the case both as a minister and as a parent.
He stressed the importance of verifying whether CBSE’s mental-health guidelines are being properly implemented in schools.
“The committee will conduct a thorough probe and submit its findings soon,” he added.
Police Record Statements, Seek CCTV Footage
Delhi Police has initiated an investigation and recorded statements of four students from the victim’s class. Officers have also requested CCTV footage from the school to understand the student’s behaviour and events leading up to the tragedy.
Additionally, police have seized CCTV footage from Rajendra Nagar Metro Station, as the student was last seen there before the incident.
DCP (Metro) Kushal Pal Singh said the police are gathering all evidence and will soon question the teachers named in the FIR.
Serious Allegations in Suicide Note
According to police sources, the student’s suicide note accuses several teachers of repeated harassment. The FIR lodged by the victim’s father also names four teachers and mentions alleged misbehaviour with the boy during a drama class on the day of the incident.
Investigators believe the CCTV footage and statements from classmates will play a crucial role in understanding the sequence of events.
