New Delhi: In the aftermath of Monday’s devastating car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, authorities continue to recover human remains from the vicinity, several hundred meters from the blast site. On Thursday, a joint team of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and Delhi Police recovered a body part from New Lajpat Rai Market, which has been sent for forensic examination to aid the ongoing investigation.
Blast Investigation Intensifies:
The Delhi Police, along with forensic experts, are working rigorously to uncover details of the Red Fort blast that claimed 12 lives. Preliminary findings suggest that a coordinated attack across multiple cities was being planned.
Identification of the Accused:
Forensic DNA tests have confirmed the identity of the blast perpetrator near the Red Fort as Dr. Umar Un Nabi. Matching his DNA with biological samples from his mother, authorities confirmed his involvement. A severed foot, recovered from the steering area of the I-20 car used in the blast, was crucial in this identification.
Financial and Material Preparation:
Investigations reveal that Dr. Umar, along with accomplices Dr. Muzammil, Dr. Adil, and Shahin, raised around ₹20 lakh, a portion of which was handed to Umar. Disputes over these funds reportedly occurred between Umar and Muzammil. Using the collected money, the group procured several quintals of NPK fertilizer from Gurugram, Nuh, and nearby areas, which were later used to manufacture IEDs.
Activity Before the Blast:
Authorities indicate that Dr. Umar had also visited a mosque prior to the attack, spending over ten minutes there before proceeding towards the Red Fort. On the evening of November 10, around 7 PM, Umar detonated the explosive-laden vehicle amid heavy traffic, affecting several nearby vehicles in addition to the blast site.
The police continue to comb through evidence and appeal to the public for any information that may aid the investigation.
