
New Delhi: Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, a rehearsal of the parade will take place today, January 24, from Vijay Chowk to India Gate. Traffic along this stretch will be completely suspended during the rehearsal. Authorities have also issued restrictions on certain aerial activities until February 1, 2026, for public safety.
The parade rehearsal will be conducted between 10:15 AM and 12:30 PM. During this time, cross-traffic from Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Manekshaw Road onto Kartavya Path will be restricted. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes including Mother Teresa Crescent Road, Sikandra Road, Firoz Shah Road, Mathura Road, Subramanyam Bharti Marg, and Motilal Nehru Marg. Traffic police have requested the public to remain patient, follow rules, and monitor updates via the traffic police Facebook page, X handle, and helpline.
Public Safety Instructions: Residents are urged to immediately report any suspicious objects or individuals to nearby police personnel. Paragliding, paramotoring, hang-gliding, UAV/UAS, microlight aircraft, remotely piloted aircraft, hot air balloons, small powered airplanes, quadcopters, and parachuting activities are prohibited in Delhi and the National Capital Region until February 1, 2026.
Metro Advisory: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has advised commuters to use the metro for convenient and safe access to Kartavya Path. Metro services will begin at 3 AM, and parking facilities will be available at all stations to assist visitors attending the parade. However, entry and exit will be temporarily suspended at ITO, Central Secretariat, and Red Fort stations during the parade rehearsal. Normal access will resume once the rehearsal concludes.
