New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested a notorious gangster who was wanted in nearly 20 criminal cases across Delhi and Haryana. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Ravindra Deswal alias Chhota, a resident of Rohtak in Haryana, was apprehended near the Dwarka Expressway after a brief chase.
According to police officials, Deswal had been absconding for the past two years after being released on bail. He was declared a proclaimed offender in at least three cases, while non-bailable warrants had been issued against him in several others.
Evasive Tactics to Dodge Police
Police said the accused managed to evade arrest by frequently changing his location and working at toll plazas. To avoid detection, he used mobile phones registered in the names of his acquaintances. After sustained surveillance and tracking his movements across nearly 25 locations in Gurugram, Sonipat and Rohtak over a period of four weeks, a police team successfully nabbed him on January 24 near the Dwarka Expressway toll plaza.
The arrest was made under ‘Operation Kavach 12.0’, a special drive launched to apprehend absconding gangsters and their associates.
Long Criminal History
Police records reveal that Deswal was earlier arrested in 2018 by Haryana Police in connection with a ₹32 lakh dacoity case along with other gang members. He is allegedly involved in several serious crimes, including murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, robbery, kidnapping and violations of the Arms Act, registered in districts such as Sonipat, Panipat, Rohtak and Kurukshetra in Haryana, as well as in Delhi.
During interrogation, Deswal reportedly told police that he had studied up to Class 10 and entered the world of crime after coming in contact with a local criminal. He later became an active member of the Krishna Gehta gang.
Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to identify his associates and unearth additional criminal links.
