
New Delhi: The Delhi government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday, 25th November, to mark the 350th Shaheedi Diwas (Martyrdom Day) of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. The day is being observed with reverence across the city to honor the Guru’s unparalleled sacrifice for humanity and the protection of religious freedom.
What Will Remain Closed?
- All government and private schools in Delhi will remain closed.
- All Delhi government offices will remain shut in observance of the holiday.
What Will Remain Open?
- Private and public sector banks will remain open, as per the regional holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India.
- Emergency services and government hospitals will continue to operate as usual.
- Delhi Metro, buses, and taxis will run according to their regular schedules.
CM Rekha Gupta Pays Tribute
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta posted on social media: “On the 350th Shaheedi Diwas of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who epitomized indomitable courage and unwavering devotion, we pay heartfelt tribute. His steadfast struggle against injustice, unique commitment to protect religion, and supreme sacrifice for humanity illuminate our nation’s moral values even today.”
She further emphasized that the Guru’s teachings of compassion, tolerance, and truth continue to inspire generations. To honor his legacy, the Delhi government has organized a grand three-day event at the historic Red Fort from 23rd to 25th November. CM Gupta urged families across Delhi to participate in the celebrations, ensuring that the Guru’s teachings and sacrifice reach every household.

The three-day commemorative event at the Red Fort will feature cultural programs and gatherings to remember the unparalleled martyrdom of Guru Tegh Bahadur, giving Delhi residents an opportunity to pay homage and reflect on his timeless teachings of courage and humanity.
