New Delhi: Winters in Delhi are now in their final phase, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting that the cold spell is likely to end over the next 10–15 days. However, residents can expect occasional chilly winds and light drizzle during this transitional period.
Current Weather Conditions
At present, Delhi is enjoying pleasant weather, with clear skies and sunlight expected over the next 2–3 days. Maximum temperatures may reach up to 26°C, bringing a mild warmth during the day. On Thursday, the city recorded a maximum of 23.9°C—0.6°C above normal—and a minimum of 10.2°C.
Weekend Outlook
The IMD predicts that Friday will see partly cloudy skies, with light fog possible in the morning. Temperatures are expected to range between a maximum of 23°C and a minimum of around 9°C. On Saturday, strong winds are likely, with maximum temperatures between 23–25°C and minimums ranging from 10–12°C. Light clouds are expected to persist across the region from 8th to 11th February.
Declining Winter Impact
Morning fog may be mild to moderate, and daytime temperatures are forecasted between 22–26°C, with night temperatures ranging from 8–13°C. Skymet Weather reports that the intensity of cold in Delhi-NCR is gradually reducing. Visibility across the region, including Palam Airport, has been good, with minimum visibility recorded at 1,000 meters or more.
Air Quality Update
Pollution levels remained high on Thursday, with PM2.5 and ozone being the primary pollutants. However, air quality is expected to improve over the next three days, remaining at normal levels. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported Delhi’s average AQI at 241. Other regions recorded the following: Faridabad 162, Ghaziabad 266, Greater Noida 220, Gurugram 295, and Noida 237. Pusa IMD and Pusa DPCC recorded extremely poor AQI at 301 and 302, respectively. Among 25 monitored locations, air quality was poor, while 11 locations had normal levels.
Wind Speeds
On Thursday, wind speeds ranged between 10–25 km/h, and they are expected to be 15–25 km/h on Friday, aiding in dispersal of pollutants.
Residents can expect a gradual transition to warmer weather over the next couple of weeks, with intermittent cloudy spells and light rainfall, but no severe cold waves are anticipated.
