Delhi-NCR Pollution Crisis Continues: AQI Shows Minor Relief, Health Risks Persist

New Delhi: The air pollution in Delhi-NCR remains severe, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) fluctuating between “Very Poor” and “Severe” levels. While a light breeze has brought minor relief to residents, the health risks associated with breathing the toxic air remain significant.

Threat to Public Health
Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows that most areas continue to experience hazardous air quality. People with respiratory conditions, as well as healthy individuals, face increased risks of discomfort and breathing difficulties.

Ground Situation in Greater Noida and Surrounding Areas
In Greater Noida, the AQI stood at 292, placing it in the “Poor” category, with Knowledge Park-III recording 261 and Knowledge Park-V at 323. Authorities have issued health warnings, cautioning that prolonged exposure could lead to respiratory issues.

Nearby Ghaziabad also recorded alarming levels: Indirapuram (284), Sanjay Nagar (273), Vasundhara (276), and Loni (360), falling under the “Severe” category. In Noida, AQI levels in Sector-125, Sector-1, and Sector-116 were 355, 320, and 332, respectively, indicating a hazardous environment for outdoor activities.

Delhi Monitored Areas Still Critical
Monitoring stations across Delhi report AQI readings between 320 and 345 in areas including Pusa, RK Puram, Rohini, Shadipur, and Wazirpur, which are considered extremely harmful to health. Experts advise that children, the elderly, and individuals with asthma or heart conditions exercise extreme caution.

Weather Outlook
According to the Meteorological Department, December’s first week will see minimum temperatures around 11°C, with maximum temperatures dropping from 26°C to 22°C, making days feel colder. This may slightly affect pollution levels, but experts predict no significant improvement in the AQI in the coming days.

Health Advisory
Doctors and pollution experts recommend the following precautions:

  • Wearing masks when stepping outdoors
  • Avoiding morning walks or outdoor exercises
  • Using air filters at home
  • Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water

Despite a slight decrease in pollution due to wind, residents are urged to remain vigilant and take all necessary measures to protect their health.
