New Delhi, November 24, 2025: Air quality across Delhi and the National Capital Region has plunged to alarming levels, with pollution entering the ‘severe’ and ‘very poor’ categories for the 23rd consecutive day. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi recorded an overall AQI of 396 on Monday, while several pockets of NCR crossed the 450 mark, making the air nearly unbreathable.
Pollution Levels Worst in NCR
Multiple monitoring stations paint a grim picture:
- Ghaziabad (Loni): AQI 451 — Severe
- Indirapuram: 438, Sanjay Nagar: 411, Vasundhara: 429
- Greater Noida (Knowledge Park-V): 441
- Noida’s Sectors 125, 62, 1 and 116 — AQI above 400
Inside Delhi, areas like Anand Vihar, Bawana, Burari Crossing, Mandir Marg, Wazirpur and Vivek Vihar reported AQI levels ranging from very poor to severe. Experts warn that such air poses risks even to healthy individuals and can be life-threatening for people with heart or lung ailments.
18 Days in ‘Very Poor’ Category, Winter Makes It Worse
Delhi has been stuck in the ‘very poor’ category since 6 November, with conditions turning ‘severe’ between 11–13 November.
The combination of post-Diwali emissions, low temperatures, stagnant wind conditions and stubble burning is being blamed for the prolonged pollution spell.
Government Issues Work-From-Home Advisory
In view of the hazardous air, the Delhi government has directed private offices to operate with 50% staff on-site and allow the rest to work from home. The move aims to reduce traffic density and lower vehicular emissions.
No Relief for the Next Week
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog and calm wind conditions for the next seven days. With minimum temperatures around 11°C and maximum around 25–26°C, the weather will likely trap pollutants close to the ground.
Meteorologists warn that no significant improvement in air quality is expected this week, raising concerns about public health.
