New Delhi: The Delhi BJP has raised serious objections to the list of candidates announced by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-elections. BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor alleged that AAP has violated norms and displayed hypocrisy in its candidate selection.
According to Kapoor, AAP has fielded Keshav Chauhan, a male candidate, from Dhichkaun Kalan, a ward reserved for women. “This is a blatant disregard of election rules. It seems AAP initially intended to nominate Chauhan’s wife but ended up declaring his name instead. This exposes the real face of the party that often accuses others of nepotism,” he said.
The BJP leader also pointed out that AAP’s candidate from Vinod Nagar, Geeta Rawat, is a former councillor who was once jailed in a bribery case. He alleged that AAP is running short of credible candidates and is now forced to rely on individuals with tainted records.
Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party announced its list of candidates for the 12 MCD wards where by-elections will be held on November 30. The list was officially approved by Delhi State President Saurabh Bhardwaj.
Responding to BJP’s criticism, AAP leaders said that Delhi’s public is fed up with pollution, filth, and BJP’s false promises, and will ensure a clean sweep for AAP in all wards in the upcoming by-elections.
The political temperature in the capital has clearly risen, with both parties sharpening their attacks ahead of the civic by-polls.
