New Delhi/Faridabad: Intelligence agencies have identified Maulvi Irfan Ahmed as the alleged mastermind behind the Faridabad terror module, which is now being linked to the recent blast near Delhi’s Red Fort. Reports suggest that Irfan played a key role in radicalizing several doctors, one of whom is accused of executing the attack.
Who is Maulvi Irfan Ahmed?
According to News18, Maulvi Irfan Ahmed hails from Shopian, Jammu & Kashmir. He is believed to have radicalized the doctors involved in the Faridabad module. Intelligence sources revealed, “Irfan Ahmed played a crucial role in extremist indoctrination of medical students. He was a paramedical staff member at Government Medical College, Srinagar, and maintained constant contact with students. He also served as the Imam of Nougam Mosque.”
Formation of the Faridabad Module:
Sources indicate that Irfan Ahmed worked to radicalize medical students in Faridabad, inspired by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). He reportedly showed them radical videos and maintained VoIP communications with handlers in Afghanistan. His role was to ensure students adopted extremist ideologies. Doctors Muzammil Shakeel and Mohammad Umar are said to have executed his plans on the ground, while Shaheen acted as a facilitator.
Operational Links to JeM:
Irfan Ahmed reportedly maintained multiple accounts on Telegram and Threema to propagate JeM’s ideology. Investigators believe he showed selected students content from the Afghan conflict and received ideological and operational guidance from handlers in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan.
Clues Leading to the Delhi Blast:
The Faridabad module came under scrutiny after JeM-supporting posters were found in Nougam, Srinagar, on October 27. Initial arrests of three ground operatives, previously involved in stone-pelting activities in Srinagar, led police to Irfan Ahmed. Using information from Irfan, authorities arrested Dr. Adil Ahmed Rather and Jameer Ahnagar, who were part of his network.
From Srinagar to Delhi:
Further interrogations revealed connections to Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, based at Al-Falah University in Dhauj, Faridabad, and Dr. Mohammad Umar, who allegedly carried out the blast following the module’s exposure. Intelligence reports also indicate that Dr. Shaheen Saeed acted as the module’s financier and facilitator. She reportedly came into contact with Irfan while studying at Al-Falah University, where he was highly active.
Authorities believe Maulvi Irfan Ahmed orchestrated the radicalization and operational planning of the Faridabad module, linking the Srinagar-based network directly to the Delhi blast.
