New Delhi: A significant security breach has been reported at Indira Gandhi International Airport, raising serious concerns about airport safety protocols. A British national, Fitz Patrick, arriving from Bangkok, managed to leave the airport without completing mandatory immigration formalities. The incident occurred on October 28, when Patrick arrived in Delhi and reportedly missed his connecting flight to London. Authorities are currently investigating his travel itinerary.
During a routine check on October 29, immigration officials noticed Patrick’s absence and immediately informed the police. Preliminary investigations reveal that Patrick bypassed the arrival immigration e-visa area and exited the terminal, heading into the city. CCTV footage confirms the breach, and authorities are reviewing security procedures to understand how such an escape was possible.
Delhi Police Take Action
DCP (IGI) Vichitra Veer confirmed that a case has been registered. Police are using both technological tools and human intelligence to trace Patrick’s movements. Staff present at the airport during his arrival are also being questioned.
A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official clarified that the arrival terminal falls under the jurisdiction of the Immigration Bureau and Customs. “CISF personnel are deployed only at entry and exit points of the terminal. Management inside the arrival terminal is handled by other government agencies,” the official said.
This incident has cast a spotlight on airport security measures. With constant monitoring of passenger movement, a traveler leaving without completing official formalities represents a grave lapse. Authorities are determined to investigate the matter thoroughly to prevent such breaches in the future.
