The new JNUSU President is Aditi Mishra, a PhD student from the School of International Studies, representing AISA under the United Left alliance. Aditi defeated ABVP’s Vikas Gupta by 449 votes, securing 1,937 votes against his 1,488.

“ABVP Is Not Our Electoral Challenge — Their Presence Is”

After her victory, President-elect Aditi Mishra said,

“ABVP was never a challenge for us in the elections. Their presence in the campus is the real challenge because they disturb our vision of a safe and inclusive environment. JNU students have clearly rejected that politics.”

The election results were announced on Thursday night, two days after voting concluded on November 4. As soon as the results were declared, Left supporters flooded the campus, waving red flags, chanting “Lal Salaam,” and celebrating the victory with drums and colors.

Campus Voting Patterns

The Left secured overwhelming support from the School of Social Sciences, School of International Studies, and the School of Languages, Literature & Culture Studies, while ABVP found its stronghold in the Sciences, Special Centers, and Engineering departments.
Initially, ABVP was leading on two posts during the first 4,500 votes, but once votes from social sciences and language schools were counted, the tide turned decisively in favor of the Left.
